Hi! Most people call me Dani. I’m 33 years old and live on Long Island. I have a debilitating, progressive disease caused by a genetic defect. It causes physical disability and a variety of health problems. I was born with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, but it was not officially diagnosed until March 2014. I’m desperately seeking help in finding wheelchair accessible housing in the area so that I can get the proper care I need and live as independently as possible. I’d appreciate any input and suggestions you can offer! I currently do not have a full bathroom on the same floor as my bedroom and my power wheelchair is unable to maneuver around in my current residence due to accessibility issues as well as a hoarding situation. I also have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which complicates my situation.
I am currently seeking a safe place to live. I was taken into a domestic violence safe house in October, but left shortly after as they refused to address my disability and need for accessible living conditions. I was forced to go back to a volatile and scary situation.
I enjoy sewing, writing, doing makeup (I’m a trained makeup artist), playing with my beautiful niece and painting. I used to be very physically active and I’m finding it extremely difficult to adjust to my limitations and symptoms that began to interfere with my life in my late teens. I plan to open an online shop for my handmade glass and gemstone jewelry. My specialty is bracelets. My most recent proud moment was raising over $1,000 on my own for American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
If you’d like to help me, please share my blog anywhere and everywhere! Also, I’m open to all recommendations and suggestions, even a long shot! I feel weird accepting money, but if you’d like to get me something from my need/want list, that would be helpful! ZebraCourage Amazon Wishlist
